109.
DEATH OF THE BOW When
Whitemen first came into the frontier, the Indians' bow and arrow
was a formidable weapon against the slow, heavy and cumbersome muzzle
loading rifle. The warriors were such accurate shots with the bow
and arrow, that they were often deadlier than the rifles. The muzzle
loaders were soon replaced by the single shot and even later on, the
repeater rifles, such as the Spencer's, the Henry's, and the Winchester's.
It then became evident that the era of the bow and arrow as a means
of defense for the Native American was coming to an end. |
