LACROSSE: THE WARRIOR'S GAME The
sport known today as lacrosse was originally played by many Native
American tribes of the Eastern, Great Lakes, and Southeastern regions
of this country. “Little brother of war”, is how the native
peoples referred to the game. It was not just played for a prize,
or the winning score, but was a very integral part of the religious
and social structure of these tribes. Spiritual “duels”
between rival medicine men, or shaman, territorial disputes, and other
types of tribal disagreements were settled by the outcome of these
massive games. Sometimes hundreds of braves “played”.
Bill shows the strength, skill, and grace of the warrior as he leaps
into the air to swiftly deliver the ball, bringing honor to his tribe.
