SPRING TRAININ' Cowboys
that can train young horses well have always been valued by ranches.
Getting the young horse to respond quickly and easily to the gentle
touch of the reins, a voice command or the slightest change in the
weight of a stirrup, is greatly appreciated by ranch. This horse is
being started out on a Snaffle bit to get his mouth ready for a more
traditional working bit when his mouth toughens. Also, the cowboy
is using a Running Martingale connected from the reins to the breast
collar, which is to train the horse to keep his head tucked . As a
boy, Bill watched his dad train many horses in this manner, and has
always seen it as an art in its own right. |
